How to Start A Cheerleading Squad
Instructions
-
-
1
Ask around the school or community to find interest and see if there is a need for a cheerleading squad. Post fliers and posters and give announcements to get the information out to those interested.
-
2
Find a place to practice, a gym or large room, and see if the school has insurance for your squad's practices, competitions and traveling. Look into any insurance policies needed.
-
3
Hold tryouts. Put up signs and hand out fliers telling people where and when the tryout is to take place as well as the desired qualifications such as the age, talent level and number of members needed.
-
4
Keep organized once you have a squad chosen. Gather permission slips from parents and keep a notebook with all the necessary paperwork, calendars and rosters.
-
5
Create practice routines and choreography, cheers and stunts for games and competitions. Depending on the sports season, the routines should fit the sport and cheer space.
-
6
Start practices and begin training hard for the upcoming season. Give rules and regulations, choose a squad name and colors, give the squad a practice and performance schedule and decide on the organization of a captain and co-captain.
-
7
Fundraise to gain money for uniforms, poms and other equipment. The school may give your squad money and a vehicle for transportation but also look for sponsors and donations from community members, businesses and parents.
