How to Start a Cheerleading Booster Club

Booster clubs consist of people who come together to support school sport teams. These clubs are usually made up of students, parents, school staff and community members, all of whom dedicate time and other resources to support their chosen team. Cheerleading booster clubs help the team raise money for various necessities, such as new uniforms and the costs of traveling to different competitions throughout the year.

Instructions

    • 1

Inform the school administration about the need for a cheerleading booster club. Let the athletic department and administrators know of club's purpose. The booster club needs to be approved by the administration before being allowed to interact with students, in this case those who want to be on the cheerleading squad.

    • 2

Organize a meeting to bring together anyone interested in supporting the cheerleading squad. Spread word of the meeting through handouts and email blasts to the community. If you're creating a booster club for a grade-school cheerleading team, speak with the parents of children who want to join to see if they'd be interested in helping.

    • 3

Get the contact information of anyone who expresses interest during the meeting. Select a leader for the developing booster club who'll act as a point person. Delegate various needs to assistants throughout the group. For example, select one person to be in charge of creating advertising for the group, and another who'll be in charge of keeping everyone up to date on the club's upcoming events.

    • 4

Contact businesses within the community for additional support for the cheerleading booster club. Businesses may be willing to donate money or other resources that will help support the club.

    • 5

Create a fundraising strategy. Plan events throughout the year to help the cheerleading club raise money. For example, plan a car wash during the summer or a bake sale during high-school sports games to bring in revenue for the club.

    • 6

Send periodic updates through email or a social networking page, such as Facebook, to keep club members informed about upcoming events and news of interest.
