Football Camps for Teenage Boys in Pennsylvania

Home to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, it's no surprise that Pennsylvania is home to plenty of people with a passion for football. Teenagers seeking to enhance their own skills outside of their school teams can do so at a variety of camps offered across the state during the year.
  1. The Jeremiah Trotter Camp

    • Run by longtime Philadelphia Eagle Jeremiah Trotter, the Jeremiah Trotter Overnight/Commuter Camp is held for three days in June at Valley Forge Military Institute. Although campers as young as 7 can attend, there are specific groups for those ages 13 to 14 and 15 to 18.

The 15- to 18-year-old campers have an extra option of attempting to be selected as part of the "Top 30 Club"--that is, one of the Top 30 players at the camp. Those selected have their biographies sent to a network of 1,500 college football scouts across the country by the camp's parent company in an effort to assist high school players with the recruiting process.

Trotter is on hand to teach, and a number of current and former NFL players, including All-Pro quarterback Donovan McNabb have visited the camp as guest coaches.

    Penn State Football Camp

    • Now in its 35th year under legendary coach Joe Paterno, the Penn State football camp runs three sessions during the summer, all of them for teenage boys.

Two sessions are for players entering eighth through 12th grade, and run four days each. A third session, just for incoming high school seniors, runs two days.

Penn State's entire coaching staff participates in giving campers skill drills, lectures about football and demonstrations of technique. The camp has limited physical contact, and pads and helmets are not worn. The senior camp focuses on each player's pre-designated position choice. Campers are advised not to come expecting fun and recreation, as hard work on football skills will be the main focus.

Golden, head coach at Temple University, is open to boys entering grades six through 12. Its daily sessions run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The camp features the Temple coaching staff along with coaches from other universities as well as high school coaches from East Coast locations. Parents should note that lunch is not included in the price of the camp, but for $7 campers get to eat at the campus cafeteria during the day.
