Football Drills & Practice Software

In the old days, a laminated playbook and a large chalkboard were the major materials for coaching a football team. Nowadays, even football fans have knowledge of plays and drills from video games like the Madden series on Playstation and Xbox. As a result, it is important for coaches to get with the times and use football coaching software to improve their methodology. There are countless features on these programs allowing you to get a leg up on your rival this coming season.
  1. Uses

    • Football drills and practice software have several main uses. First and foremost, the software helps you to plan a practice session with your team. These programs let you create plays for your offense and defense to try out during your practices and games. The software also helps you to analyze which offensive and defensive formations work the best when preparing for the next team on your schedule. Other uses include keeping track of the statistics of your team, promoting your team members to the media and determining how well your team has done in a particular area during a game.

    Scheduling Practice

    • Several football software programs help you schedule a practice session down to the minute. The programs come with many different drills that your team can use to improve on areas of offense, defense and conditioning. You can also add your own drills to the program. There is a timer setting available that will alert you and your coaching staff to move on to the next drill. You can save these practice files in the program so that you can look at them later in the season or in years to come.

    Creating Plays

    • Some of these programs include a play creator and editor so that you can bring your own creativity to the playing field. The software contains most formations you could think of including I-formation, double wing, shotgun and goal line formations. Using these formations and the sample plays provided, you can alter the plays to fit the style of your offense. Once you create these plays, you can print them out into a playbook for your players to examine, memorize and execute to perfection.

    Analysis

    • Some football software includes the option of analyzing your offense and defense extensively to determine the areas your team must practice the following week. The offense analyzer plugs in the plays that you have run and your overall statistics, and it gives you a detailed account of how successful each play was, on what downs it was the most successful, and the percentage of the game you ran that particular play. The defensive analyzer performs similar functions, showing you which defensive plays were the most successful and the least successful.

    Examples

    • There are many examples of effective football software programs. Football Software is a program that lets you plan practices, create a league and keep statistics. Park Enterprises has several different programs including the Offensive Analyzer, the Defensive Analyzer and the Practice Planner. Football Play Designer focuses on creating plays, but the program also has a practice planner add-on.
