How to Teach Little League Baseball to Six Year Olds

1
Teach the fundamentals. The fundamentals of baseball are throwing and hitting the ball. Allow your players to practice these main skills frequently with lots of fun drills. Hitting should focus on just making contact with the ball each time. Do not worry about how far or fast the ball goes. Pitching should focus on how to hold the ball, how to throw it and then how to catch it.

2
Drill your Little Leaguers in short increments so they do not lose interest. If you lose the six-year-olds' attention, getting it back is much harder than having kept it in the first place. Try to separate your practice into 15-minute increments. Hitting and pitching drills can each take 15 minutes, and if you have any time left, you can let your kids practice running bases or doing other conditioning-type drills.

3
Teach concepts in short increments. For instance, if you are teaching player positions, break it into infield and outfield. You do not want to overwhelm your Little Leaguer with too much information, and it's likely they will hear and understand only a portion of what you teach the first time anyway.
-
4
Praise your Little Leaguers as much as possible. Being negative does not help your Little Leaguer to build his confidence and be a better player. Try to offer as much praise as possible to each child. This builds your bond with the child as well as encourages him as he learns the skills he needs to be a great player.
