How to Teach Little League Pitching

Teach your Little League players the right techniques for pitching. It takes practice, but soon the boys and girls will be throwing strikes. Pay attention to each player's body form as the ball is thrown so that you can provide feedback on how to improve accuracy.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a plastic bucket and lay it down flat with the open side facing you. Place the bottom of the bucket against a fence and ask one teammate to stand next to the bucket. The child should be wearing a baseball helmet.

    • 2

Walk off about 40 steps from the plastic bucket and have the pitcher stand there to throw. Tell the pitcher to look at the bucket and take aim before throwing.

    • 3

Give the pitcher time to practice pitching all the baseballs into the bucket. Instruct him to release the baseball later if the ball is hitting the fence and sooner if the ball is striking the ground in front of the bucket. Help the children retrieve the baseballs and set up to try again. Line up several children in a row to practice their pitching all at once, or have them take turns practicing while the rest of the team is working on another skill.
