Find a green to practice your alignment. You should really look to use a green that has a reputation for being easy to read. You need to be concentrating on getting your alignment right in this exercise, not worrying about other issues.

Use a putter that feels comfortable in your hands. If a putter feels too heavy, then it may affect your balance, which, in turn, will affect your alignment. A putter will feel right when it seems like a natural extension of your arms.

Don't look at the hole when initially practicing on improving your alignment. Concentrate on your alignment, and putt with your eyes closed. This will keep your focus more on your alignment.

Keep your head and body still when putting, especially your shoulders. The square putting stance is the conventional stance for putting, but, for any stance, the shoulders need to stay square. Your shoulders and feet should be in line all the way from your standing position to the target line--where you are aiming the ball. The correct position of your body will help your balance when striking the putter through the ball.

Check that your putter is correctly aligned. This should be as close as possible to 90 degrees, to your target line.
