How to Do Shuffles, Backwards and Butt Kicks in Soccer

Warming up before you play soccer is essential to getting the most out of practice. You can have fun while warming up by using creative ways to encourage movement, such as the shuffle, the backward and the butt kicks.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up 2 cones anywhere from 10 to 20 feet apart. Line the players up and send them to perform each skill from one cone to the other and back again for several repetitions.

    • 2

Have each soccer player take large sideways steps until they've reached the end of the cones and come back.

    • 3

Coach the soccer players to jog backwards from cone to cone. When they reach the end cone, turn them around and have them jog backward to the first cone. Encourage them to bend at the waist slightly so they can be prepared to move forward during the game when needed.

    • 4

Teach the butt kick to stretch the out the legs. The players should run from cone to cone, striking their buttocks with the heels of their shoes with each step.

    • 5

Watch for technique and make sure the kids are working together and are having fun.
