How to Estimate the Cost of Equipment for a Youth Football Team

Estimating the cost of equipment for a youth football team is an important consideration for an organization that is forecasting its financial situation for the upcoming year. When budgeting for new equipment many organizations work off of estimates because it is unclear exactly what amount will need to be spent due to variables such as the roster not being set. When estimating the cost of youth football equipment the two biggest considerations are the cost of the helmets and the cost of the shoulder pads.

Research the cost of the youth equipment. Look online for the price of the equipment and contact at least two local equipment dealers. These dealers can be found online or in the phone book. Get prices for helmets and shoulder pads only as these are the two most critical pieces of equipment. Additional equipment such as pads or mouth pieces are usually supplied by the parents.

Determine an acceptable price range for the equipment based on the information you found online and received from the dealers. Different helmets and shoulder pads cost different amounts. Come up with a number in the middle of the high end and the low end for each piece of equipment. If your organization wants all high-end equipment use the information for the most expensive equipment. In most cases, youth organizations will purchase equipment that is middle of the ground price wise.

Determine the average number of kids that have participated on the youth football team over the last five years. Accomplish this by adding up the number of players on each of the five rosters and divide by five. Take this average number and times it by the total cost of one helmet and one pair of shoulder pads. For example, if the team averages 20 kids, and the total cost of a helmet and shoulder pads is $100, times the two together to get the estimate. In this case the estimate would be $2,000.
