How to Raise Money for My Football Team

Many football teams rely on their ability to raise money from external sources in order to run. Paying league fees, rental for a home gridiron, equipment and travel costs can run up into the thousands every season. Organize fund-raising events to help keep your football team well-resourced and equipped, remembering that the more time and effort you invest in your fund-raiser, the more likely you are to succeed and secure the vital funding your team needs.

Host a charity football game where your team plays another local team with all of the money raised from spectators going towards your fund-raising cause. Advertise your event by posting fliers around your local community, including details of the game location, start time and the fact that it is being played to raise funds for a particular cause. Contact the sports editors of local newspapers, magazines, radios and television stations with a press release to see if you can increase the profile and interest in your team's fund-raising effort. Make sure your team's cheerleaders, coaches and players thank spectators for their attendance and carry around money-collecting containers.

Contact team alumni if your football team is affiliated with a school or college. Send them a hand-signed letter outlining your needs, what else you have done to raise funds and how and why their valued contribution would be used by the team. Send a follow-up letter to thank anyone who donates money, including photographs of the new piece of equipment in use or of the team attending the football competition your team was able to travel to thanks to their sponsorship, for example.

Forge links with local businesses. Send letters to local businesses asking them if they are able to donate any money or even sponsor the uniforms of your football team. Offer business owners the opportunity to have their company branding displayed on your football team's jerseys in exchange for a set amount of money. Be sure to personalize any letter you send to a business, addressing the owner in name at the letterhead and referencing the company specifically within the letter. You should also hand sign any correspondence you send to show the effort you have invested.
