How to Raise Money for a Sports Team

Youth sports leagues, travel teams and school sports teams often need to raise money for equipment, uniforms, training fees or travel to non-local tournaments. When this is the case, coaches and parents typically set up a fundraiser to raise money for the team's needs. When the whole team gets involved in the fundraising efforts, there is greater chance of success.

Make a colorful poster showing your financial goals. Draw a thermometer on a piece of poster board with dollar amounts instead of temperature readings. Hang the poster in the locker room to motivate the team and color in higher levels on the thermometer as more money is raised.

Hold a dance competition or dance-a-thon and charge an entrance fee. Use the school's gymnasium and donated food to keep expenses low.

    • 3

Organize a car wash and encourage all team members to participate. Wear team uniforms to capture drivers' attention and encourage tips. Charge a set fee for each car, or allow drivers to donate an amount of their choice.

Sell something. Selling candy bars, cookie dough and pizza are all popular ways of raising money for a sports team. If everyone on the team pitches in, you will raise more money for the team.
