Ideas for Sports Banners

Sports banners have many different uses, such as cheering your favorite team on, decorating pep rallies and decorating your bedroom at home. Some sports teams offer banners for sale. It can be cheaper and more personalized, however, to make these banners on your own. The way in which you will be displaying your banner will dictate how it is made.
  1. Sporting Events

    • Whether you typically watch your favorite team play on TV or in person, you have likely noticed the sports banners the fans carry in the stands. Fans often make these banners from pieces of poster board, using markers and paint to decorate them. If you are artistic, you can add the logo or mascot for your favorite team. If you have access to an overhead projector, you can also trace the logo or mascot if you are unable to draw it. You also might be able to come up with a flashy slogan using a player's name or the team name.

    Pep Rallies

    • Sports banners are commonly used at pep rallies to decorate the gym and help get the school excited about the big game. You will most likely use poster board for these banners, as well, but paper is also acceptable for indoor pep rallies. These banners typically depict the home team beating the visitors. For instance, you can draw a picture of your mascot crushing a can that depicts the other team's mascot with its foot and the words, "Crush the Titans." Some pep rallies offer a theme, which can help you crate a banner based on that theme.

    Bedroom Decor

    • Some young boys have a sports team that they follow closely and love to watch. If you are decorating your son's bedroom in a sports theme, you can create a sports banner to reflect his favorite team. You can use the team colors and make a small poster that features the team's logo, mascot and name. The poster might even feature his favorite player. You can cut pictures from magazines and create a collage or draw things freehand if you are capable. This also works if your son has a favorite sport rather than a favorite team.

    Large Banners

    • Sometimes larger banners are needed for outdoor games. These banners will need to be weatherproof just in case it rains during the game or between the time the banner is hung and the game begins. You can use a large tarp or plastic sheet to make a waterproof sports banner for display outside. To make this banner completely waterproof, you will need to use materials that are also waterproof to decorate. Sharpie markers and electrical tape are most likely to hold up to the elements.
