Sports Banner Ideas

Banners have always been a big display of spirit at sporting events. They are a tangible way fans become part of the game atmosphere, grabbing attention from players, fans and TV cameras. Cheerleaders create huge banners for players to break through as they enter a playing field or court. Designing a good sports banner requires creativity. It needs a statement that makes it stand out. You must also decide on the material used, like poster paper or nylon.

  1. Development and Design

    • A banner's primary objectives are to inspire and show support for a team. A simple statement saying that you love the team (or a certain player) is often the best way to go. Simple traditional ideas always work (the classic "D-Fence" image is one example). Well-known pop culture statements can work if they fit the scenario (like "The Force Will Be with You"). These words should be made out in bright, bold colors. If you have any artistic skill, you can also draw pictures on the banner resembling players, a team logo or some object used in the game. Please note that anything used to directly intimidate the other team rather than support yours, especially one that uses offensive language, is often discouraged and could be disallowed.

    Creation

    • The simplest and cheapest way to make a banner is to just hand-draw the banner using poster paper with markers and/or paint. If your banner is to include any descriptive photos or images, this might not be the best method, unless you can enlarge a photocopy of the image piece by piece and paste it on the banner. The alternative is to have the banner professionally designed by a sign and banner shop. Create a miniaturized version of the banner with a computer photo or word processing program, writing out the words in the size, font and color you want and adding the desired pictures or images. Give this printout to the shop to use as a template. You can often get the banner made for a relatively low price provided you keep it within a certain size and limit it to only one color.
