Fundraising Ideas for Kids' Sports Teams

Kids' sports teams need to raise money for things such as new uniforms and equipment and even to be able to play out-of-town games. There are many events and activities that can be done to help raise funds for kids' sports teams, and the following are just a few ideas.
  1. Fun Run

    • A fun run can help to bring in a lot of money as a fundraiser. The event should be organized and can be held on a day when parents, teachers, students, friends and family can participate. All you need to do is determine the route, give attendees a map so they know where the race begins and ends, and charge a joining fee to all those who are participating in the event. You can also award a prize to the winner.

    Team Spirit

    • Team spirit is important in all sporting events, so what better way to raise funds than to sell team spirit items during games? Students can learn how to silkscreen or go to a local, inexpensive printer to print team logos on pins, shirts, caps or towels, which can then be sold at sporting events.

    Sports Calendar

    • Sports calendars can be easily made with your own home or school computer and printer. Team members can be featured to represent a month in a custom calendar by taking action shots during games. Alternately, you can organize a photo session with athletes posing in their uniforms. Calendars can be sold on school grounds or in sporting events. If the budget allows, you can also have these professionally printed.

    Sports Highlight Videos

    • Ask parents for their videos, and students can then compile a special sports highlights video DVD. These can be sold all year to raise funds because different sports can be captured depending on the season, or you can categorize videos based on certain sports.

    Awards Night

    • Organize an awards night where you can charge attendees to enjoy a simple dinner and an awards ceremony. Athletes can receive MVP awards, team spirit awards or most improved awards. In addition, each guest can receive a raffle ticket for attending and win a prize such as reserved front-row seats to a school wrestling match.

    Sports Tournament

    • Organize a sports tournament of mixed teams where teachers, students, parents and coaches make up the basketball team. You can invite the whole school to attend and charge an entrance fee for those who want to watch a basketball, soccer, baseball, softball or volleyball game. An alternative to this event would be to have students and teachers form teams and play against each other.
