Most things in golf are perpendicular, keep this in mind for lining yourself and the club face up to the ball.

First figure out your grip.
Hold the club out straight in front of you, perpendicular to your body. You should put your left hand on the shaft first, grabbing the club so that when you look at your hand you only see your first two knuckles. Your thumb should be straight, not around the shaft.
Next place your right hand on the shaft. The palm of your right hand should go over your left thumb and around the shaft.
At this point you should still be holding the club straight out about waist high.

Next, establish how you stand. Line yourself up to the ball by standing with both feet together. Then move them apart, about shoulder with.
*Your club should still be extended in front of you, waist high.Slightly bend your knees (VERY SLIGHTLY) and bend over until your club head is on the ground. This will take some practice to get right. It is best to think of praying or bowing.
If you find you bend your knees too much or overextend yourself, remember to push your rear up and out and you should be standing correctly.
To check if you are standing correctly, take your right hand off the club, make a fist and place it at the end of the shaft. If there is more than one fist distance between your body and the shaft you are extended too far, move the club closer to your body or straighten your body up, you are bent over too far!

The basics of your swing. You should now have your stance down and the club face lined up perpendicular to the ball. You should now loosen your grip on the club, not let go, just loose. Drop your hands a little so your arms are relaxed as well. If you are holding the club too tight, your swing will suffer.
When swinging your head should be down looking at the ball, when you move the club back you should wind up with your left shoulder under your chin.
Your back swing should feel as if you are trying to hand your club to someone who is directly behind you -- this will get your weight moving correctly. Your wrists should not move, if they do your shot will be off.
The arc of your swing should be like a pendulum, nice and easy allowing the weight of the head of your club to follow through to the ball.

Then the follow through of your swing.
Most of your issues that you will have on where your ball is traveling can be on your follow through. Once the club head travels through to the ball you should wind up with your right foot up on your toe and your left foot should be turned facing the direction of your shot.
The hardest part is how your arms and hands should end. In ending your swing you should look like you are holding a big tray of food like a waiter. Your Left hand should be palm facing up (still holding the club) with your right hand helping, again while still holding the club.
Keep in mind, if you come up too fast(stand up), the ball will sail low. If you stay down (keep your body at the same level) the ball will travel up - it is a game of opposites, keep this in mind.
