How to Swing the Basket in Golf

The Anselmo, created by John Anselmo, aims to help golfers improve their game. One of the drills the Anselmo method includes is known as the basket drill. This drill helps golfers improve their swing by using a range basket. This encourages golfers to use their larger muscles, instead of relying on their hands and wrists to perform the swing, to achieve better results and develop a better swing.

Instructions

Line up with a target to use as a focus for your practice swing. Hold a golf range basket so your hands are grasping opposite sides of the basket at the nine o'clock and three o'clock positions. Your thumbs should be on the inside of the basket while your remaining fingers are on the outside.

    • 2

Turn so that the target is lined up to your left side, if you are right handed or your left side if you are left-handed. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, bent over slightly at your waist. Bend your knees slightly to assume a swing stance.

    • 3

Swing the basket up and to the side, away from your target. Swing the basket to the right if you are right handed, or to the left if you are left handed. Shift your weight onto your back leg as you swing the basket backward.

    • 4

Swing the basket down and forward to perform a forward swing. Shift your weight back onto your front leg as you bring the basket into the forward swing. Keep ahold of the basket for the entire duration of the drill.

    • 5

Notice your back and upper arm muscles stretching and flexing as you perform the basket drill swing. Avoid using your wrists to swing the basket to get into a good habit for your golf swing.
