Places to Bungee Jump in Colorado
-
Heritage Square
-
About 14 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70 is the town of Golden, Colorado, which is home to the Coors Brewing Co. and the Heritage Square Alpine Slide and Bungee Jump. The alpine slide has two half-mile tracks down the mountain and the 70-foot bungee jump has a 10-foot airbag on the ground for nervous first-time jumpers. In 2009, the cost is $30 to jump.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
-
While not exactly bungee jumping, the Glenwood Caverns has two rides that can provide some of the same highs as bungee jumping. The Swing Shot launches you across Glenwood Canyon and 1,300 feet over the Colorado River at speeds up to 50 miles per hour. The cost to do this ride in 2009 is $9. The Bungee Trampoline lets you jump higher and higher, flip and somersault while on a trampoline. In 2009, the cost is $6 per ride. In 2009, the cost to enter the park is $8 to $12 with day passes and unlimited rides costing $37. Glenwood Caverns is about 160 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70.
Elitch Gardens
-
In Denver, there are limited options to engage in bungee jumping but Elitch Gardens (formerly a Six Flags park) amusement park offers an experience similar to bungee jumping, where participants are pulled up to a 150-foot platform and are let go. The XLR8R is not a direct drop, but more of an arch motion as you fly from 150 feet high down to the ground and back up the other side. The entire experience is about two minutes and can provide some of the same thrills as taking a bungee plunge. In 2009, the admission cost to Elitch Gardens ranged from $30 to $60, while the XLR8R is an additional $20-50, with one, two or three people allowed to go on at the same time. Elitch Gardens is located in downtown Denver.
Royal Gorge yearly event
-
While bungee jumping does not happen all the time at the Royal Gorge Bridge, about once a year (since 2004) Go Fast Sports sponsors a three-day event where participants can take the leave off the world's-highest suspension bridge. The Royal Gorge Bridge sits 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River, making this the tallest bungee jumping venue on the planet. The Royal Gorge is located in Canon City, Colorado, about 50 miles west of Colorado Springs on U.S. Highway 50. From Denver take Interstate 25 South to U.S. 50 and head west. In 2009 the cost is $23 to get in the festival with a limited amount of bungee spots that need to be reserved ahead of time. The 2009 event was canceled, but participants are hopeful that Go Fast brings the weekend jump back for future years.
