Bungee Jumping in Houston

Bungee jumping has exploded as one of the top extreme sports in the world, but if you want to try it in Houston you have to drive at least an hour before you can soar through free fall. However, there are several in-state destinations that Houstonians can visit when they want to go jump off a bridge.

  1. Bungee Fun

    • Located just 50 miles southeast on the island of Galveston, Bungee Fun is the closest jump location to the Houston metropolitan area. A variation on the traditional bungee set-up, Bungee Fun seats two people in a enclosed "basket," then rockets them 130 feet up in the air in just 1.5 seconds before they free fall back to earth. Located on Galveston's Sea Wall, this ride gives participants a bird's eye view of the Gulf of Mexico while they fly.

    Zero Gravity Thrill Park

    • Located 240 miles north of Houston in Dallas, Zero Gravity Thrill Park is home to a seven-story bungee jumping tower that focuses on family fun and safety. The Air Boingo tower features a stuntman airbag on the ground below rated for falls far higher than seven stories to act as both a safety net and a sense of security for its jumpers. Participants must be 10 years old to jump.

    Gravity Adventure Park

    • Located 370 miles south of Houston in South Padre Island, Gravity Adventure Park sports a trio of bungee jumps. The most impressive is Bungee Grande, standing 150 feet tall and billed as "Texas' Tallest Bungee Jump." There's also Bungee Chico just 35 feet, and designed specifically for kids. If your tastes are more off the beaten track, the Rocket is billed as the "World's Tallest Reverse Bungee," built for two people to undertake at once.

    Dive Bomber Alley

    • Another nontraditional bungee-based attraction is located in Six Flags Arlington, about 260 miles north of Houston. Dive Bomber Alley allows three people to bungee at the same time by first raising them some 150 feet above the park. One of the three riders must bravely pull a ripcord that sends them plummeting back to earth at speeds up to 70 miles per hour.
