How to Ride a Snowboard Box

Snowboarding is a sport that can allows you to be creative when doing tricks or other freestyle moves. Many mountains have terrain parks that contain several different objects that you can ride. One object that is often good for beginners to practice on is a box. It provides a wider surface for you to ride on than a thin rail. Although there isn't one "correct" way to ride a snowboard box, there is a method you should use if you are trying to ride a box for the first time.

Instructions

    • 1

Ride down the mountain slowly and inspect the box before trying to ride the box. Check to make sure that the lead up and landing area of the box are in good condition. If the areas are too icy or the snow isn't packed down well, you may want to avoid that box.

    • 2

Clear your mind before beginning your descent to the box. Visualize yourself riding the box.

    • 3

Ride down the hill at a moderate pace. Don't race down the hill, as you may feel out of control approaching the box. You'll want to maintain your speed as you approach the box.

    • 4

Approach the box and try not to slow down. The slower you move along the rail, the more difficult it can be to maintain your balance.

    • 5

Ride the box like you would normally ride down the mountain. Pretend that the box is an extension of the mountain. Bend your knees and simply continue to ride. This is called a 50-50, because you have the box halfway in between your board.

    • 6

Dismount off of the box by simply continuing to ride. Don't attempt any other tricks. You can practice dismount tricks once you've become comfortable riding boxes.
