How to Make a Snowboarding Flat Bar

Freestyle snowboarding has evolved to include many of the the street tricks seen in skateboarding. Grabs, spins, grinds and slides are now a part of the snowboard trick dictionary. If you don't have access to a snowpark, building your own flat bar can be a good way to start practicing grinds and slides. It can be assembled from readily available materials with basic skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Clamp one of the short lengths of flat bar to the middle of the round bar, forming a T shape.

    • 2

Put on the mask, gloves and apron and heat up the torch. Heat the joint between the two bars and apply the welding rod, melting it onto the joint between the two bars. Keep the torch close to the joint. Once you've covered the whole joint, allow it to cool.

    • 3

Repeat the process with the other two short pieces, forming a second T shape.

    • 4

Place the long piece of flat bar on the floor or on your work surface, and weld the square section of one of the T shapes to it, around 6 inches from the end. Make sure the round bar is at 90 degrees to the main flat bar, forming a pair of stabilizing legs.

    • 5

Weld the other T shape to the opposite end of the long bar. When both joints have cooled, flip the whole assembly over and stand it on its new legs. It is ready to use.
