How to Build a Four-Foot Mini Ramp

A four-foot mini ramp is a practical ramp for the BMX novice. Four-foot ramps are great for practice and preparation for bigger ramps that might be found in competition. Although this ramp is considered a mini ramp, caution should be taken when performing activities such as these. Ensuring that your ramp is sturdy is the primary focus when constructing it. Construction lumber and plywood are adequate for these types of ramps, and can hold up for many uses.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the 4-by-7-foot sheet of plywood from corner to corner using your circular saw. This will get you two identical triangular pieces of plywood. These are the sides to your mini ramp, and the four-foot edges are the back of the ramp.

    • 2

Position the ramp sides so they are on their seven-foot edge, parallel, and 29 inches apart. The hypotenuses should be aligned. Place a board between the sides so it is on edge, and flush with the back bottom corners of the sides. Screw through the sides and into the board. Screw three more boards in this manner, spacing them 18 inches apart. The bottom edges of these boards should be flush with the bottom edges of the sides. These boards will add stability to your ramp.

    • 3

Screw the last seven boards in a similar manner, but so they are spaced 12 inches apart, and so the edges of the board are flush with the hypotenuses of the sides. Start 6 inches from the top corner of the sides. These boards will support the ramp surface.

    • 4

Lay the ½-inch plywood on top of the ramp frame so the edges are flush with each side of the frame. Screw through the plywood, 2 inches from each 8-feet edge, into the boards. Use 14 screws for this step.
