How to Make a Stunt Bike

To make a stunt bike you will need to start with the strongest frame possible, preferably a reinforced frame that has a machined head tube, bottom bracket and dropouts. Most stunt bikes are made from chromoly steel with double butted tubing to be able take all the extreme stress of riding. Stunt bikes are good for freestyle riding and for doing stunts like jumps, gaps and making good landings. All you'll need is a few tools and with a few twist of the wrench and the removal of a few parts and you can be on your way. With a few simple adjustments-modifications you will be able to ride your bike with more confidence knowing that you where able to transform your bike into the stunt bike you need.

Adjust your handlebars. Lowering the height and adjusting the direction of your handle bars will also create a lower center of gravity. This will help with your ability to control your bike and to do stunts like bunny hops and bar spins. By loosening the center stem bolt with either the Allen wrench or socket set depending on you style of stem, which is located just off center below the handlebars you can lower the stem and re-tighten to a height that feels good to you. In addition, make sure the handlebars are parallel to the ground so they can be used from either direction.

Remove anything that can possibly hamper your ability to perform stunt your bike. If your bike has a chain guard that is located over the chain, remove it by unscrewing the bolts and simply taking it off. Kick stands are located just behind the bottom bracket and can be removed by simply unscrewing the connecting bolt. Take off decorative pads on the top tube and top bar of the handlebars and any reflectors that are installed on the front and rear of the bike. These are all cosmetic parts that can become a hazard to you and can affect your riding.

Lower your bike's seat. This will help to keep your center of gravity lower which will aid you in landing and riding away from your stunts. To lower the seat, first loosen the seat post clamp located at the base of the seat tube and then apply downward force to slide down the seat and seatpost. Adjust to your height and comfort level and then realign the seat and re-tighten the seat post.

Go over your bike with your tools in hand and make sure that the every part you adjusted is securely tightened. Double check that adjacent parts that might have come loose during your adjustments are tight and secure. Take your bike on a quick ride to test it out. Re-tighten any adjustments as needed. Then, grab your helmet and go practice some stunts.
