1
Find a new seat. If you need one because your old seat wore out, another one the same size and brand may work well. Whichever seat you choose, make sure it supports the bottom of your pelvis comfortably and that your legs do not rub the seat when you pedal.
-
2
Loosen the bolts holding the shaft of the bike seat into the frame with an adjustable wrench and pull up on the seat to remove it. You might need to remove the nuts and pull the bolts all the way out to remove the seat if the bike is older or has frame damage from rust.
-
3
Slide the shaft of the new bike seat into the frame.
-
4
Measure the inseam of your leg from the inside of your ankle to your crotch. Adjust the seat height, so when the pedal is all the way down, the distance between the top of the seat and the pedal is the same as your inseam.
-
5
Tighten the bolts with the adjustable wrench.
-
6
Test the height of the seat by taking the bike for a ride. You should be able to ride comfortably without stress on your knees and without rocking your pelvis back and forth. Adjust the height and angle of the seat as needed before you take an extended ride.
