AHRMA currently sanctions several categories of dirt-track, off-road and dirt-bike racing competitions. Categories include dirt-track, observed trials and cross-country. Participation in properly sanctioned competitions requires the proper usage of 18- and 19-inch tires. In accordance with the official AHRMA Rule Book Section 14, wheel width cannot exceed 2.11 inches in all classes, and tires with knobs are strictly forbidden.

The American Historical Racing Motorcycle Association maintains rigid guidelines for 19-inch tires allowed in officially sanctioned dirt-bike racing competitions. The 19-inch tires specifically approved by the AHRMA include the Carlisle 51-S 4.00x19; the Carlisle Avenger 4.00x19 or smaller; the Carlisle Universal 4.00x19 or smaller; the Continental Milestone 120/80x19 and 130/80x19; the Dunlop K70 4.00x19 or smaller; the Dunlop K180F 110/80x19; the Goodyear DT1 4.00x19 or smaller; the Goodyear Eagle DTII 27.0x7.0x19; the Maxxis DTR-1 27.0x7.0x19; and the Pirelli MT53 4.00x19 or smaller.
18-Inch Tires

AHRMA has published guidelines establishing the formal sanctioning of select 18-inch tires for proper use in official dirt-bike racing competitions. The approved 18-inch tire models include the Avon GP1 4.10x18; the Avon Gripster 110/80x18; the Carlisle Universal 4.00x18 or smaller; the Dunlop K70 4.00x18 or smaller; the Dunlop K180 120/90x18; Dunlop Trailmax 120/90x18; Metzeler Enduro 4.00x18; Metzeler Enduro 4 110/80x18 &120/80x18; Pirelli MT53 4.00x18 or smaller; and the Pirelli MT60 110/80x18 and 120/80x18.
