How to Combine a Leatt Brace With a Chest Protector

Developed in 2002 by Dr. Chris Leatt, the Leatt Brace is used in motocross to limit the range of motion in a rider's neck. When worn alone or in conjunction with other safety equipment, the Leatt Brace has been shown to reduce the number of neck injuries to riders. However, fitting the Leatt Brace correctly with other body armor is essential to getting the most out of your safety gear.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull your chest protector over your head. You should be able to lift your arms 90 degrees at the sides in a "flapping" motion.

    • 2

Remove the screw at the back of the Leatt Brace.

    • 3

Slide the thoracic support pad into the space at the back of the brace and screw it into place. Make sure it is screwed in tightly.

    • 4

Open one of the side buckles and slide the brace around the side of your neck.

    • 5

      Reattach the buckle.

    • 6

Tuck the thoracic support piece behind your chest protector. Do the same for the front support piece. The Leatt Brace should sit flat against your chest and back.

    • 7

Check the fit. Your chest protector should sit on top of the Leatt brace and the materials should not bunch at the shoulder area. The chest protector should have 2 to 3 inches of room to slide against your body.
