How to Whip Dirt Bikes
Dirt bike "whipping" is the first step in progressing to more advanced aerial tricks on the race track or freestyle park. Whips do not directly increase or decrease a dirt bike's speed, but they may improve a rider's lap times by helping the rider maintain a smooth rhythm throughout a course. Whips use the centrifugal force of the spinning rear wheel and input from the rider to move the rear of the bike left or right on a horizontal axis.

1
Approach a jump, in a seated position, under acceleration.
-
2
Push outward on the dirt bike's handlebar, with your right hand, as you ramp up the jump.
-
3
Lean left and pull the right handlebar back as the rear wheel leaves the ramp. This will rotate the bike leftward, kicking the rear tire out to the right.
-
4
Pull your right leg against the bike as you reach the peak of your air time, which will rein in the rear wheel, realigning it with the rest of the bike before landing.
