Wake Skate Games

Wake skating, sometimes written as wakeskating, is an exciting water sport. Combining aspects of wakeboarding and skateboarding, wake skaters ride boards without foot bindings while being pulled behind a boat. This provides many challenges. Wake skating is a solitary sport, however, there are many games you can play with your friends while wake skating.

  1. Big Air

    • Wake skaters catch air from a boat's wake.

      Each wake skater gets one chance to get as high out of the water on a wake to wake jump.The rider judged to have jumped the highest, thus getting the "biggest air," is the winner. A variation on this game is to pick a particular trick, such as an indy grab, and require each wake skater to perform this trick. Again, the rider with the biggest air is the winner. This game provides a fun way to improve your riding with your friends.

    Longest Boardslide

    • Each rider gets one run to perform a boardslide on the boat's wake. The wake skater that performs the longest boardslide is the winner. There are many different ways to play this game by specifying the variation of boardslide. The boardslide can either be frontside or backside, or even in switch stance. You can also use an obstacle, such as specially constructed floating rails made for wakeboards and wake skates, instead of the boat's wake.

    Skate

    • Decide on an order of wake skaters. The first rider attempts a trick. If he or she lands the trick, the next rider must perform the same maneuver. If the second rider does land the trick, then the next wake skater must attempt the same maneuver. Continue until someone fails to land the trick or every skater has performed the trick. If any rider fails to perform the trick, they receive a letter, like in the basketball game horse, but in this game use the word "skate." Continue through the order until all but one rider gets "skate."

    Build a Line

    • Performing a series of tricks provides a greater challenge for riders.

      This game is very similar to the game of skate. However, instead of one trick, this game requires riders to do numerous tricks in sequence. Decide on an order of wake skaters. The first rider attempts a trick that the remaining riders must perform. After all riders perform this trick, the second rider performs a different trick. Now all riders must perform both the first and second trick. This is continued and builds a "line," or series of tricks. If a wake skater fails to perform all the tricks required then they are eliminated. The winner is the last person to be able to perform the line.
