How to Make Kick Scooter Ramps

Kick scooters, such as those by Razor, can be very fun to ride around on, and even more exciting when used to attempt tricks with your friends. Bunny-hopping over that crack in the driveway can get boring quickly, so eventually you may want to take your tricking to the next level. A variety of websites sell pre-made ramps, but the quicker, cheaper way to go is to build your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a life-size model of your ramp using cardboard or poster board. The ramp should have two triangular side panels and a ramp face, off of which you will jump. Use this model to experiment with ramp sizing, angles and other factors, keeping in mind the area in which you will be using the ramp. Decide on appropriate measurements for the side panels and ramp face. The length of the 2-by-4s will be determined based on the size of the ramp's face.

    • 2

Separate the pieces of the model and trace the two side-panels onto a piece of 3/4-inch thick plywood. Trace the ramp face onto a piece of 1/2-inch thick plywood. Cut the panels out using a handheld power saw.

    • 3

Measure the width of the ramp face. Cut as many 2-by-4 boards as is necessary to support the ramp face, into pieces that are 1 inch shorter than the ramp face's width. Boards typically come in 4-, 8- and 12-foot lengths. Using a power drill and wood screws, screw the end of each 2-by-4 to the inside of the two side panels to create a platform on which the ramp face will be attached.

    • 4

Place the ramp face over the top of the 2-by-4 boards and side panels. Use a power drill and wood screws to attach the ramp face to the side panels and the 2-by-4s, effectively creating a smooth platform off of which to launch.

Take your ramp outside. Try it out a couple of times, slowly, to be sure it is safe and well-constructed, then invite your friends over for a kick scooter trick session.
