How to Make a Snow Ramp

When it comes to enjoying winter sports, there's nothing like boarding on freshly powdered snow, whether racing down the trails at top speed or meandering amongst a winter wonderland. And if you're a snowboarder, then you already know that snowboarders love to defy gravity with their jumps. Make your own snow ramp so you and your friends can get vertical on the slopes. Snow ramps will have to be rebuilt after heavy use as the friction from the snowboards will slowly erode the ramp. Pack fresh snow on the snow ramp after several runs to keep it in good shape.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a spot for your snow ramp. You want to make sure that snowboarders have enough time to build up speed and a large enough landing area after the jump to come down safely. Find a spot that serves both purposes.

    • 2

Shovel snow into the area where you want to build your snow ramp. You want a gradual increase in snow, so place a little at the base of your ramp and more towards the pinnacle.

    • 3

Form the snow ramp with our shovel and your gloved hands. Pound the snow into shape using the back of your shovel while fine tuning the smooth ramp with your hands. Pack the snow so that it is nice and firm and gradually slopes upward.

    • 4

Sprinkle water on the snow ramp. The water will freeze causing the ramp to harden into place.

    • 5

Add a layer of of loose powder on top of the ramp. Shoveling a bit of loose powder on tops of the icy surface helps snowboarders glide into the air as they hit the jump.
