How to Size for Rollerblades

If you've ever tried skating in a pair of inline skates that are the wrong size, you know how painful an experience that can be. Inline skates that are too large will put a great amount of pressure on the ankles, causing serious injury and falls. Skates that are too tight may cause foot pain. Knowing how to size your skate at the shop while trying on different pairs will prevent choosing the wrong size.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear the sock type you will likely skate in when you go to the store to choose your skate. Wearing socks that are too thick or thin will cause sizing issues.

    • 2

Place your foot into the skate and put the heel, back wheel or back brake into the ground so that your foot is at the back of the boot.

    • 3

Tighten the laces of the skate so that the skates are firm.

    • 4

Stand up and bend your knees over your toes then sit back down. Your feet are in the correct position in the boot.

    • 5

Feel the location of your toes in the boot. They should move freely. No crunching. Touch your toes to the end of the boot. Your toes should fully extend.

    • 6

Check your heel in the boot. The skate should not squeeze the heel, but hold it in place instead.

    • 7

Try on skates that are one size larger and smaller than your shoe size.

    • 8

Wear the pair of skates you find to fit properly for about 15 minutes in the shop to allow for swelling of the foot because of heat. If you can skate, and the shop allows it, take the skates for a test run.
