How to Size Figure Skates

Figure skaters can perform some of the most amazing acrobatic movements the human body can make, and they can do so while smiling and making it look easy to a spectator. However, this sport requires significant training and athletic ability, as well as having a properly fitted skate. Without a properly fitted skate, a figure skater will struggle on the ice, and balance will be adversely affected. Today, figure skates are sized in the same manner as shoes, and if you know your shoe size you can easily pick out the right set of skates. Learning how to properly size your foot, and correspondingly your skate size, will ensure that you'll select an appropriate set of skates.

Instructions

Measure foot size using a foot measurement plate, which should be available at a sporting goods store that sells skates. Ensure you measure while standing, and measure both feet in case one is bigger than the other.

    • 2

Sit down and measure the foot width using the foot measuring plate. Ensure that you measure both feet.

    • 3

Choose the skate size that corresponds to your measurements, and try them on for a good fit. Ensure that you're wearing a pair of thin socks, typically used for figure skating, when you try on the skates. Your toes should not be bunched up at the tip, and the foot should not feel squeezed into the skate at the sides. Toes should be able to slightly wiggle.
