Tutorial on How to Quad Skate

Quad skating, on roller skates with four wheels, is a way to exercise, get around your neighborhood and stay in shape. Quad skating is all about staying centered and balanced and learning how to shift your weight. Many roller rinks offer both beginner classes and adult skate nights. With a little practice, you'll be ready to quad skate at your local roller rink or around your neighborhood in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet and skates.

    • 2

Stand up on your skates. Place your feet shoulder-width apart.

    • 3

Turn your toes out slightly to position your feet into a "V" shape.

    • 4

Bend your knees to help maintain your balance. Keep your back straight and eyes looking forward. Do not move forward until you feel centered.

    • 5

Place your weight on the inner two wheels (inside edge) of your right skate, keeping all four wheels flat on the ground. Push your right foot diagonally behind you to propel yourself forward. As you push forward, transfer your weight to your left foot. Let your right foot leave the ground when it is approximately one walking stride length behind you.

    • 6

Bring your right foot back underneath you and next to your left foot. Center yourself with both skates flat on the ground

    • 7

Push your left foot behind you, pushing with your inner two wheels -- as you did with the left foot in Step 5 -- and transferring your weight to your right foot.

    • 8

Continue to alternate your feet, pushing behind you to propel yourself forward.
