Zipline Safety for Kids
-
Zipline Height
-
Both outdoor adventure parks and backyard zipline courses offer scaled down versions of adult courses for both enjoyment and safety of children age twelve and younger. Although the height of the zipline course doesn't increase the danger for young children, extremely high courses can be frightening for both youngsters and their parents. Typically, kid-friendly zipline courses are ten to fifteen feet off the ground.
Safety Equipment
-
Safety gear should fit snugly on the rider. The full torso harness design features leg straps the rider steps into and latches. Nylon harnesses with an attached metal "O" ring connect to carabiner lanyards. Children are connected to the platform or zipline by at least one lanyard at all times. Safety equipment should include a helmet, gloves, goggles and knee-pads.
Training Sessions
-
Participating in a training session prior to riding the zipline teaches children how to clip the safety lanyards and use the "belay" or friction breaks on the zipline pulley. A guide accompanies children while ziplining.
