How to Get the Furthest Push When Skateboarding

Skateboarding is a fun and creative athletic sport. Once limited to California teenagers, skateboarding has grown into a worldwide recreational activity and art form for people of all ages. Skateboarding requires a mixture of coordination and balance, but skating tips can certainly help you master the sport. One of the first things you should learn to do is get a good push off.

Figure out which foot stance suits your riding style. A regular stance is when you feel more comfortable with your left foot at the nose of the board and your right foot at the tail. A goofy stance is when you feel more comfortable with your right foot at the nose and your left foot at the tail.

Center your body on the board. The midpoint of your chest should be aligned with the midpoint of the skateboard.

    • 3

Keep your anchor foot at the nose of the board. Slightly bend your anchor foot as you place your pushing foot on the floor. Sweep your pushing foot along the floor using the entire bottom surface of your foot. This will maximize your stride.

    • 4

Return your pushing foot to the tail of the board at the completion of the sweep. Regain your balance by centering your body on the board.

    Maintenance Tips

Clean your skateboard bearings once a month using isopropyl alcohol. Remove the bearings from the skateboard truck. Place the bearings in a glass jar filled with alcohol. Allow the bearings to soak overnight. Shake the jar a little before removing the bearings the next day. Let the alcohol dissolve before attaching the bearings back onto the trucks.

Apply skateboard lubricant to your bearings once a week. Use a lubricant made for skateboard bearings. Avoid using WD-40, which attracts dirt and dust.

Replace your bearings once they become damaged. Inspect the bearings once a month when you remove them to be cleaned.
