How to Cut a Longboard
Things You'll Need
- Butcher paper or poster board measuring at least 46 inches in length
- Plywood measuring at least 92 inches long and 22 inces wide
- Power drill with a 3/16-inch drill bit
- Band saw or jigsaw
- 40 to 60 grit coarse sandpaper or power sander
Instructions

1
Acquire a piece of plywood double the size of the longboard you plan to make.
-
2
Trace an existing longboard on a large piece of paper to make a template. Be sure that template matches the shape and size of the longboard you want to create. Trace the trucks as well and be sure to mark where the holes for the trucks are drilled. The trucks are the axles that will hold the wheels on the skateboard.
-
3
Arrange the straight side of your template along the center of the plywood. Remove the template and line up the straight edge. Trace the other side of the longboard.
-
4
Drill holes for the trucks based on your template using a power drill with a 3/16-inch drill bit.
-
5
Cut out the deck based on your template using a band saw or a jigsaw.
-
6
Sand the deck using 40 to 60 grit coarse sandpaper or power sander to round the edges of your deck. Be sure the entire deck is smooth.
