How to Make Spark Gloves

Spark gloves are used as a form of protection as well as show for serious downhill long boarders. Long boarders travel at high speeds down steep inclines that require them to use their hands to decrease speed and maneuver turns. Spark gloves have thick "pucks," or pieces of plastic, around the palms to protect the rider's hands from the asphalt. With the addition of small pieces of flint, these protective gloves create sparks on the ground and add a little spectacle to the sport.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your plastic board into 10 equal 2-inch squares with your handsaw. These squares are called pucks when attached to your glove. Plastic kitchen cutting boards work well to make your pucks and can be found for cheap at grocery stores.

Attach flint chips to each puck. Hold the puck in a vice or with a pair of safety tongs away from your hand. Heat one side of the puck with your torch until the plastic becomes a semisolid.

    • 3

Sprinkle your flint chips over the heated puck and push them into the plastic with your tongs. Do this for each of your 10 pucks. Flint chips can be found at local hardware stores. You can also smash the flints out of old lighters to make your own chips.

Lay your leather gloves on your work surface with the palms facing up.

    • 5

Attach your pucks to the gloves by similarly heating one side of the puck and placing the melted side of the plastic to the glove's palm. For each glove, place one puck across the index and middle finger; one across the ring and pinky finger; one in the center of the palm; and one on either heel of the hand.
