How to Make Hockey Gloves

Hockey is one of the world's most popular sports, and gloves are an important part of the game. They are used to protect the hands, grip the stick, and if the need arises, catch a flying puck and drop it back down to the ice. Anyone with an Internet connection can build his own hockey gloves, customizing the design and color relatively easily. Most companies that sell hockey gloves offer a way for you to personalize yours online.

Instructions

Know your size. Before you begin to build your hockey gloves, it's a good idea to leave the guesswork out of the process and figure out the size of your hands. The best way to do that is to visit a sporting goods store that sells hockey gloves. Have a store associate measure your hands. After that, try on the brands of the gloves you plan to customize to get the best fit.

Know your options. A number of companies allow you to build your gloves online. Great Skate, Eagle Hockey and Cheap Jim's Sports Outlet are among the companies offering websites that make the process of customizing gloves a simple process (see the Reference section for links).

Choose your glove. For this example, we'll use Cheap Jim's Sports Outlet's hockey gloves customizer. Once you log on to the website, a new window will pop up. Pick your size (from 10-14 ½), and then follow the instructions to tailor your glove.

Pick your zones. Once the glove customizer window pops up, you will see a diagram of the glove. Drag your cursor across the different "zones" of the diagram to see how the customizer separates each section of the glove. Click on the zone and a color palette will emerge. Click on the color for each section.

Customize the text. After choosing the zones, the customizer gives you the option to personalize the text on the glove. To do this, click on the "edit custom text," button on the lower right hand side of the pop-up window. You'll pay per line for each line of text.

Select other options. Before checking out, the customizer will prompt you to provide information on glove size, palm type, inserts and screen printing. Click each option and choose the style that best fits your needs.

    • 7

Check out. Once all your selections are complete, hit the "check out" button. The window will display your order and the total cost, and some online outlets will require free registration before allowing you to enter your credit-card information. After the process is complete, you can expect to receive your customized gloves in three to five weeks.
