1
Lay your 5-by-8-foot felt piece horizontally facing you on a flat surface. Practice writing out the words you want to include on the banner to ensure everything fits within the constraints of the fabric; lay pieces of paper on top of the felt and use a pencil to draft the letters, numbers and images to use as a guide.
-
2
Hand-draw or use stencils to create letters, numbers and images from the paper sketches on your scrap felt with a permanent marker. Cut the shapes out of the felt and set them aside.
-
3
Arrange the felt cutouts on top of the felt banner to double check that everything fits properly. Apply fabric glue to the backs of the cutouts and press them firmly in place on the banner.
-
4
Cut a small hole in each of the top corners and top center of the banner. Insert the first non-toothed half of a grommet into each hole, and then turn the banner over to close off the grommets with the corresponding toothed grommet halves. Pound the grommets securely in place with a hammer.
-
5
Insert twist ties through the grommet holes. Use the twist ties to attach the banner to the grandstand guardrail for display.
