How to Do a Backside Nose Slide

The backside nose slide is an intermediate skateboarding trick. The nose refers to the front end of the skateboard which features a concave shape. The underside of the nose is covered with a slick layer of laminate that allows you to slide across obstacles. If you are having trouble sliding on the nose, apply a thin layer of candle wax on the edges of the ledge. The skateboarding professionals at the Berrics training facility recommend learning the backside nose slide on a flat ledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the rounded nose of the skateboard in your non-dominant hand. Stand about 30 feet in front of the ledge and lower the wheels of the skateboard to the ground while releasing your grip on the nose.

    • 2

Jump onto the grip tape of the skateboard. Spread your skate shoes about shoulder width apart while bending your knees. Push off the ground with your back foot to increase your speed.

    • 3

Approach the obstacle with the heel edge of skateboard parallel to the ledge. Align your back foot on the tail of the board. Slide your lead foot toward the middle of the skateboard.

    • 4

Push down on the tail with your back foot while leaping vertically. Slide your lead foot forward to rest on the nose. Rotate your shoulders to turn the skateboard 90 degrees.

    • 5

Align the nose of the skateboard over the edge of the ledge. Apply downward pressure with your lead foot as you land in the nose slide position. Lean forward as you begin to slide across the top of the ledge.

    • 6

Rotate the skateboard 90 degrees as you slide off the end of the ledge. Bend your knees to absorb the impact of the landing. Practice the backside nose slide until you can land the trick consistently.
