How to Get Dirt Off Skateboard Grip Tape

Skateboarding is a recreation that takes time and intensive practice to master, usually accompanied by a large amount of scrapes, bumps and bruises during the learning process. A skateboard is coated with grip tape, which helps to secure the board to your shoe as you maneuver the board. Over time, the grip tape can become dirty, and this will decrease the amount of grip that the tape provides. Cleaning your grip tape can improve the grip and also keep your board looking new.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your board outside to a flat surface free from dirt. A driveway or carport is an ideal location to clean the board.

    • 2

Set the board on its wheels. Mentally separate the board into three sections to clean. This helps for a thorough cleaning.

    • 3

Pour 1/2 cup window cleaner onto the first section. Scrub the cleaner in with a toothbrush. Ensure that you scrub along the length of the board, not across the board.

    • 4

Soak up the cleaner and dirt with a paper towel. Blot the liquid until the board is dry.

    • 5

Repeat the same process with the next two sections and dry the board thoroughly. Use a clean toothbrush for each section, or clean your toothbrush in between cleaning the sections. A dirty toothbrush will only spread dirt around the board.
