How to Measure a Skateboard Deck

After a heavy session at your local skatepark, you notice that your wheels are rolling sluggishly and your board feels flat and soft. It's likely time to replace your setup. If you received the board as a gift or purchased it without knowing the dimensions, you should measure the length and width to determine what size replacement board to get. You can obtain the dimensions with a simple household measuring tape.

Turn the skateboard deck upside down so that the printed graphic faces upward.

    • 2

Place the end of the measuring tape at the center end of the nose or tail. Stretch the tape straight across the length of the deck, pulling it taught. Lay the tape flat at the end of the opposite end of the deck, and note the measurement in inches. This is the board's length.

    • 3

Align the end of the tape with the heel or toe side of the board. Stretch the tape across the width of the deck and pull it taught. Note this measurement, which is the board's width.
