How to Buy Extreme Skysurfing Equipment

As with most sporting equipment, buying gear for skysurfing is easier when you have an idea what you need, what you want and where to get both. The most important piece of equipment in skysurfing is the board, of course. But it requires a few other items, as well. Read these reminders before heading out to the skydiving store or ordering a bunch of stuff online.

Choose the right skyboard for your skills. Boards usually range from about 35 inches to about 60 inches long and resemble their cousins, the snowboards. Beginners should go with shorter boarders until they develop stronger control. Many skyboard makers will construct boards to order. Look for board dealers mostly online, although some local parachuting shops may sell skyboards.

Attach bindings. Like snow skis, skyboards require bindings, which are usually sold separately. The most important feature to keep in mind for bindings is that they need to have a quick release mechanism that can be worked from the right or left. Most board sellers can recommend the best bindings for you.

Keep your feet on the boards by adding toe loops to the binding setup. These also usually come separately. These small but important pieces of gear are little looped cords that hold your feet in place as you twist, turn, fly upside down and do other amazing skysurfing tricks.

Protect your body. In skydiving of any sort, you should always wear headgear. There are many choices in skydiving helmets, with some new models allowing you to attach cameras. Others can be ordered with cameras already in them! Skysurfing clothing should be the same as for skydiving--that is, close-fitting and not likely to inhibit flight movements. In addition, goggles or secured, high-impact sunglasses are also commonly used, along with gloves.

Remember the skydiving basics, such as a properly packed parachute, an emergency chute and an audio/visual altimeter.
