Spotting Rigs That Can Be Used Without a Spotter
-
Trampoline
-
This piece of equipment features elasticized ropes, a pulley system and safety belts that attach to the acrobat. The spotting rig holds the acrobat safely as he practices twists, jumps and flips upon a trampoline. An acrobat who misses a move lands and bounces on the trampoline, rather than hitting the floor.
Portable Spotting Rig
-
A portable spotting rig is a movable, self-supporting structure. The acrobat is attached to a belt, rope and pulley system suspended above a thick mat. The self-spotting rig -- containing the pulley systems -- connects to floor plates. It is approximately 18-feet high and 10-feet wide.
Diving Spotting Rig
-
Spotting rigs used by divers are usually ceiling-mounted. Below the rig is a plastic encasement filled with foam and covered by a net. The rig uses a pulley, bungee cord and belt system to assist divers in practicing twists and turns. The device allows the athlete to practice technical maneuvers with minimal fear of injury.
Weight Lifting Spotting Rig
-
A weight-lifter's spotting rig features a steel structure equipped with lockout points, pulleys and cables. The cables hook to the barbell, but do not impede an athlete's lifting stroke. Lifters practice squats, bench presses and other techniques without fear of losing control of the weight.
