How to Learn Diving Board Tricks

Diving off of a diving board can be fun in its own right, as well as useful for swimming. Adding a little variety to your diving board jumps can make your summer days even more enjoyable. Some relatively easy tricks to learn are the can opener, the swan dive and the front flip.

Instructions

  1. Can Opener

    • 1

Get a running start and jump off the board.

    • 2

Lean back about thirty to forty-five degrees.

    • 3

Pull one knee to your chest and hug it tight.

    • 4

Maintain the position and enter the water feet-first.

    Swan Dive

    • 5

Bend your knees while standing on the end of the board with your arms raised above your head.

    • 6

Extend your legs, while swinging your arms down for extra momentum, to jump up and away from the board.

    • 7

Extend your arms above your head and point your legs straight behind you as if completing a regular dive.

    • 8

When you reach the apex of your jump, bend at the waist and touch your toes.

    • 9

Extend your legs above you and extend your arms toward the water.

    • 10

      Enter the water head-first.

    Front Flip

    • 11

Bend your knees while standing on the end of the board with your arms raised above your head.

    • 12

Extend your legs, while swinging your arms down for extra momentum, to jump up and away from the board.

    • 13

Tuck your legs in and tuck your head down, leaning forward as you do. The change in your center of gravity should begin your flip.

    • 14

Extend your legs and cross your arms across your chest after you complete one revolution. This will cause your rotation to end.

    • 15

Keep your arms crossed over your chest, and point your toes down as you enter the water feet-first.
