I Want to Learn How to Boogie Board

If you want to learn how to boogie board, what you actually want to do is learn to bodyboard. Bodyboarding is basically a kind of water sport that is similar to surfing, but the board tends to be much shorter and easier to handle than a surf board. In addition to your boogie board, you will also need a pair of swim fins to use while paddling out and attempting to ride a wave. Learning to boogie board is made up of learning to paddle and catching your very first wave in the water.

Instructions

    • 1

Lie your body flat on your boogie board. Be sure your swim fins are on tight.

    • 2

Move your body so that your hips are aligned with the bottom of your boogie board. Hold onto the board with each hand at the top corners.

    • 3

Rest your elbows against the boogie board for more control. Lift your head and give your back a slight arch.

    • 4

Put your feet underneath the water and kick gently to propel your body out into the water. Keep your feet under the water for more control while paddling out.

    • 5

Watch for waves. When you see one that's not too big, try to catch it. Start by paddling out toward the wave. Break right or left before the wave approaches. For this example, assume you will break right.

    • 6

Position your body toward the right edge of your boogie board. Press your elbow into the board on the right edge for control. Your right hip should be on the back right edge of the board.

    • 7

Place your left hand one-third of the way down on the boogie board on the left edge and bend that elbow slightly for control.

    • 8

Push your body forward for greater speed and intensity as the wave approaches. Keep your right hip firmly on the board. List upward as the wave comes at you, and hopefully, you will catch it and have learned to boogie board. If not, simply paddle back out and try again until you get it.
