How to Soften Kangoo T-Springs

Kangoo Jumps are used for cardiovascular exercise. Also known as rebounding shoes, they resemble ski-boots perched on a spring-like apparatus, called T-Springs. Bouncing on Kangoos is similar to jumping on a trampoline, providing a cardiovascular work out that has much less impact than regular running. The boots come in different levels of an "impact protection system" -- some boots offer more bounce than others -- providing an easier or more intense work out. Depending on your weight and level of physical activity, the T-Springs on Kangoos may need to be adjusted, no matter which pair you purchased.

Test the Kangoo Jumps. Find an area where you can sit to put them on, but also hold on to a stable area when you stand -- preferably a chair next to a wall. Be sure to wear high socks that go above the calf to prevent rubbing on the skin. After securing the straps, hold onto the stable area when you stand. The curved soles require balance at first, but after the first few steps -- or jumps -- they are easy to adjust. Start by doing some slight jogging or bouncing, and ease into your workout. At the end of your work out, you should be able to tell if you would like more bounce. If this is the case, you can soften the T-Springs by cutting them.

Cut the T-Springs. Under the boot, there are three plastic strings that provide the "stretch" that reacts to the force. If you would like more bounce, you will need to loosen the strings. Do so by cutting the middle string with scissors. With softer T-Springs, you will get a more challenging work out because of the extra bounce.

Test the softer T-Springs. Place the Kangoo Jumps on your feet and go for a slight jog. If there is too much bounce, you can purchase a new set of T-Springs on KangooJumps.com.
