How to Calculate Weight on a Powertec Multi

Powertec is a brand of plate-loaded strength equipment. A Powertec multigym has several workout stations, such as an overhead press, squat, chest press, lat pulldown and tricep bar, all on one compact piece of equipment. Powertec does not use cables or weight stacks. It is relatively simple to calculate the resistance weight because you have to load weight plates on the machine. However, you do have to take one additional source of weight into consideration to know exactly what resistance you are using.

Instructions

    • 1

Load weight plates on the lever arms for the exercise station you want to use.

    • 2

Add up the weight of all the plates. Add only the weight of the plates on that station. The plates on other stations do not affect the resistance of the exercise you are doing.

    • 3

Add 20 lbs. to the total. The Powertec lever arms weigh 20 lbs. without any additional plates. If you didn't load any plates on the machine, you would still be pressing 20 lbs. For example, if you add two 10-lb. plates to the triceps bar, you are pressing 40 lbs.
