How to Make a Hand Wrap for Pull Ups

If you do workouts that involve high reps of pull ups, you may be familiar with the painful, bloody, torn palm. Having an injury on your hands like that can put you out of workouts for long periods. There are a few different ways you can protect your hands to help prevent tearing, including athletic tape or gymnastic wraps. But athletic tape can be expensive and gymnastics wraps can cost as much as 40 dollars. Finding a happy medium like being able to make your own hand wraps can help save you a lot of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the sheet of foam and place one hand flat on the foam and make a mark with a pen about an inch where the tips of your fingers end and another mark just below your wrist.

    • 2

Cut the foam sheet vertically in a strip that is one to two-inches wide depending on your hand size. Use a ruler to trace where you will be cutting to help you keep a straight line.

    • 3

Take the strip on one end and cut directly down the middle until you reach about halfway down the strip.

    • 4

Take the foam strip and place the divided ends between any two fingers except your thumb, on the side where your palms are facing up. Make sure the midpoint where you cut is the part between your fingers.

    • 5

Pull the two ends of foam on the back and behind your hand.

    • 6

Cut a strip of athletic tape long enough to go around your wrist and wrap the tape over the end of the foam and around your wrist.

    • 7

Repeat steps one through six for your other hand.
