How to Buy Running Gloves

When the weather turns cool, gloves become a critical accessory for runners. When your extremities are warm, the rest of you will feel toasty. And at a minimum, you will be less distracted by the elements and able to focus on a good run. Here's what to look for when shopping for gloves.

Instructions

    • 1

Find gloves made of polyester, microfiber or smart wool. These wicking materials will keep your hands warm without giving you sweaty palms.

    • 2

Choose gloves depending on your climate. Your options are plenty: thin, lightweight gloves; thick, snow-resistant ones; or convertible glove/mitten versions.

    • 3

Experiment to determine your own preferences. You may find that your hands chill easily, or that you feel especially burdened by a heavier glove.

    • 4

Try them on. If gloves are too small or even slightly snug, you may despise them by mile 8.

    • 5

Choose a glove with soft spots, especially over the tops of fingers, so you can gently wipe your face or drippy nose.

    • 6

Bonus features include reflective material to keep you visible during low-light conditions.
