Build swimming endurance. The endurance to bike, swim and run requires that endurance. Spend your time swimming on technique which will allow you to complete the half triathlon.

    • 2

Build bike riding endurance. Do so two to three times per week. The goal is to be able to easily complete one three-hour bike ride at least once per week. You must be able to complete 56 miles in one session. Incorporate riding this entire distance as fast as you are able to do so.

    • 3

Train to complete the 13.1-mile run easily in one session. Depending on your beginning fitness level, this could take several months. Start by running just a few miles per week and work your way up. Not only do you need to train physically but for endurance as well.

    • 4

Practice the half triathlon in its entirety approximately one week before the day. This means first bicycling 56 miles, swimming for 1.2 miles and completing the 5.6-mile run.

    • 5

Rest for the first three days one week before the half triathlon. Slowly begin to build to your trial run before the race.
